Working as a pipefitter can be a very challenging but rewarding career. A day as a pipefitter is nothing short of exciting as you are working in fast-paced environments and not operating on the same job day after day.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Become a Local Union Pipefitter<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">Becoming a union pipefitter has clear benefits and provides you with job safety. To become a part of a union there are several steps you need to take including the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Attain a high school diploma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight:400;\"> (or determine the prerequisites set by the union you are joining)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Choose a union and apply to it<\/b><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. Union 539 and 455 are two pipefitter unions located in the St Paul, MN area.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Apply to an apprenticeship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. Through an apprenticeship program, you will be involved in a combination of classroom instruction with on-the-job training. The programs typically last 4-5 years where you will learn and develop skills as well as get paid for your work.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Certification and training<\/b><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. Complete the training and required classroom lessons including things such as blueprints, pipe systems and equipment, welding, safety procedures, and more.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Become a Journeyman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">. After successfully making it through the apprenticeship you will become a journeyman which is a title that signifies that you have the skills and experience to work independently<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400;\">There are many benefits that come with joining a union.
